Random Thoughts

So Parker has been teething quite a bit and getting a little miserable at times. We try to put her to bed a little later, but she's still waking up crying in the middle of the night. During the day, she's so strung out tired she doesn't know what to do with herself. We're trying not to drug her before she goes to sleep, but it's tempting..... I'll also note that this change coincides pretty directly with the fact that I let her fall back on her head the other night - Hannah says I'm taking too much credit. She thinks it's constipation. How do parents ever really figure this stuff out?

In other news, Durham still smells like skunk. A woman told us tonight that her dog smelled for a year after it got skunked in the face - which is exactly where Durham took it.

Squats is still living in the basement. She ventured upstairs once and met the dogs. It was a scary moment she doesn't care to repeat. We got her a scratch post/bed thingie and covered it with catnip - she LOOOOOOOVED that. She's kind of a junkie for the catnip. She's also a lousy hunter. Hannah was playing Xbox the other night and a mouse scurried across the floor right in front of Squats - who just watched it and didn't move a whisker. Probably because she was high.

SKUNKED!

Meet Squats

She joined us on Monday after a long wait. Hannah booted her from campus and made students take her to the shelter. When we decided to adopt her (read - when she told Dale about it), we had to wait about three weeks because she got kennel cough at the shelter! She's here now and quite happy in the basement.... away from the dogs.

crying it out

so parker has been fighting sleep lately. super-tired, but not wanting to be put down to sleep. tonight we let her cry it out for the first time. it took about 40 minutes, but she finally went to sleep. we know we're doing the right thing, but of course we feel like crap. i suppose we should get used to it.

chatterbox

Parker has become a totally chatty kid. Blah blah blah blah all day long. If she were a co-worker she would be very annoying, but she's a cute kid, so we love it. In the past few days we swear we've heard a couple "mamas." Now that she has the basics down, we're working on more sophisticated sounds, like "socialized medicine," "living wage" and "down with patriarchy!" She'll have it down in no time.
